Air travel often brings unexpected interactions — from casual small talk to fleeting connections that stick with us long after landing. Sometimes, what begins as a harmless conversation can take a surprising turn, especially when emotions and assumptions get involved. One Reddit user recently shared a story that left them questioning the true nature of a chance encounter during a routine business trip.

He wrote:
I (31M) recently took a flight for a business trip, and I’m still trying to process what happened during that flight.
For context, I was flying with Southwest Airlines, which uses open seating — first come, first serve. I boarded fairly early, so I had my choice of most of the available seats. I headed toward the middle of the plane and chose a spot in the emergency row, which had two seats.
As the last group of passengers was boarding, a gorgeous woman asked if she could sit next to me. I politely said yes, made some room, and soon the plane was ready for takeoff. Before we were even in the air, we hit it off right away. She was very flirty, wasn’t wearing a wedding ring, and from what I noticed, she seemed to be traveling alone.

We talked about our plans and why we were flying. She told me she was heading to LA to visit some friends, while I explained I was traveling for work. At one point, she got very handsy — she even put her leg over mine and pushed up the armrest between us so she could get closer.
He went on explaining:
Since I assumed she was single, I went ahead and made plans. I told her where I was staying and suggested we meet up later. To my surprise, she said she was staying at the exact same hotel. We exchanged numbers and actually made plans for that evening.
Fast forward to landing. As soon as the plane touched down, she quickly unbuckled her seatbelt, said her goodbyes, and made sure she was among the first people off the plane — which struck me as odd.
Walking down the ramp, I spotted her again — only this time, to my shock, she was wearing a wedding ring and holding hands with a man as they headed toward baggage claim.

Later that night, I texted her to see what was going on, even mentioning that I’d seen her after the flight. She brushed it off and dodged the topic, which I found strange. At that point, I just stopped replying.
That evening, I went out for dinner, and to my surprise once again, she and the same man ended up sitting at the table directly across from me. She never came over to talk but kept making flirty eye contact the entire night.

- She used you for entertainment. Probably better than the in-flight movie. © Regular_Yellow710 / Reddit
- First of all, I would have told the husband. Secondly, be aware that this is also a tactic used in robberies. A girl flirts with you, finds out where you’re staying, and then, at 2 o’clock in the morning, three men show up at your door. © Current-Actuary-6679 / Reddit
- It sounds like the two of them were working together as con artists — and worse. They got your information, as you were their mark. This sounds like a highly dangerous situation for you.
In the future, be very wary of someone being super flirty with you when you don’t know who they are. Next time, don’t give out your information or where you’re going to be staying. I know you were caught off guard by her behavior and felt flattered, but that’s the con. The scenario had so many red flags. © Major-Cranberry-4206 / Reddit - Could be some little game she plays with herself to prove that she’s still “got it.” © Useless890 / Reddit
