“No family should ever have to endure this kind of pain,” Harper’s parents said outside Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis on Thursday.

On August 27, 2025, during a school gathering, an individual entered the church and caused harm to several attendees. In total, 18 people were injured, including 15 children. Thanks to the swift actions of staff and students, many lives were protected.

The families expressed their gratitude to those who acted bravely and emphasized the importance of remembering Fletcher and Harper not for the tragedy, but for the joy they brought to others.
In their statements, both families urged leaders and communities to take constructive steps to address public safety and mental health. “We hope Harper’s story inspires action, not sorrow,” her parents said.

Authorities have identified the individual responsible and are continuing their investigation. Officials noted that the person had experienced significant emotional challenges and left behind writings expressing regret and inner turmoil.

Community members gathered in vigils and memorials to honor the victims and support one another. Parents, students, and neighbors have come together in solidarity, sharing messages of hope and resilience.

President Donald Trump acknowledged the incident and called for national reflection, ordering flags to be flown at half-staff in memory of the victims.

As Minneapolis heals, the families of Fletcher and Harper are turning their grief into a call for compassion, awareness, and change — so that no other family has to endure such loss.
