A British man has walked away from the wreckage of the Air India crash that killed 241 people in an
extraordinary tale of survival.
Vishwashkumar Ramesh was in seat 11A on the London-bound Boeing 787 ight when it crashed shortly
after take off in Ahmedabad, western India.
Mr Ramesh’s brother, Nayan Kumar Ramesh, told BBC News Vishwashkumar “has no idea how he
survived” and escaped the plane as the only survivor.
On June 12, 2025, an Air India ight departed from Ahmedabad, India, heading for London Gatwick but
crashed soon after liftoff.
On their X account, Air India reported that the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner was transporting 169 Indian
nationals, 53 British nationals, seven from Portugal, and one Canadian citizen. The aircraft crashed within
minutes of takeoff and burst into ames.
